Pay Per Click FAQ
How does pay per click work?

Pay per click works like a word auction. We bid for the words and phrases that are relevant and you pay the bid price only when someone having searched for one of your words or phrases clicks on your listing in the search engines and gets to your web site. Generally speaking the higher the bid the higher position achieved though other factors such as Ad quality and landinge pages affect position.

How much do the bid prices cost?

Like any auction the bid price depends on a) how many bidders there are and b) how much they are bidding. Our average clients bid price vary from 5p to £5 i.e. 3p per click/visitor. We choose the bid prices for our clients based on what is the most cost effective position e.g. if 1st position costs 40p and 3rd costs 10p we’d list our client in 3rd position. Ensuring bid pricing and strategy is effective is a key part of our ppc management service.

Is this expensive?

No! We aim to turn every £1 you spend into £1+ in sales so making a profit can never be expensive! Also you only pay what you budget for e.g. if you have a £10 a day budget and your average visitor price is 10p then you will get 100 visitors. We have clients who spend from £1 to £1000+ a day. The reason they do so is because it represents return on investment.

Can you really achieve top positions?

Yes! Whats more you can be top for your desired phrases in less than 10 minutes (honest!)

Is this the same as search engine optimisation (SEO)?

No. Website optimisation or search engine optimisation (SEO) is a collection of techniques and methods involving manipulating the content on your web site, your web sites structure and coding and also other factors such as link building. The idea of SEO is to make the search engines a) find your site and b) recognise it as important enough to display as a search result.

SEO can be very effective if done well but cannot guarantee position and may take months to have an impact on your search engine positions.

SEO v PPC - Should I choose SEO or PPC?

SEO we consider as a best practise approach that should be considered when building a web site and also on an ongoing basis, a bit like online PR really. We always work on our own sites SEO and it produces steady amounts of traffic and leads for us. PPC on the other hand is more like direct marketing. You choose your keywords you want to appear for, when to appear for them, what your listing (sales message) says and how much traffic you receive. It allows you to instantly change things based on what is working and what isn’t e.g. if a particular phrase is generating many leads/sales you focus more of your spend and traffic volume on that keyword. SEO can be an awesome source of traffic if done correctly and of course long term the traffic is free, unlike PPC.

How can you assure me this is effective?

Pay per click is the most measurable form of advertising. Our ppc management enables us to analyze our clients campaigns to such an extent that we can see:

  • Which keywords produce enquiries/sales
  • Which search engines produce enquiries/sales
  • What the cost per lead/sale is (see below)
  • When enquiries/sales occur
  • What content is or isn’t effective on your web site
  • Which listing copy (sales message) produce best results
  • Much more…

We use all this information to tweak the campaign to ensure you get the best, cheapest, most likely to buy traffic.

Example:

The following is an actual example of a client’s campaign over a 30 day period. Looking at just 1 keyword specifically we can see that the keyword ‘swimming pool cover’ generated:

  • 12317 searches (on Google, Yahoo & MSN)
  • From which they received 1310 clicks (visitors)
  • The average cost per click (cost per visitor) was 20p
  • This returned 124 sales
  • Total keyword spend £262 (20p x 1310 visitors)
  • Sale rate = 9.47% (124 sales from 1310 visitors)
  • Cost per sale = £2.11 (£262 / 124 sales)

We can see this information for every keyword on every search engine. We remove keywords, alter bid prices/positions and more based on this information ultimately keeping the cost per lead/sale as low as possible. It’s this kind of constant attention to detail that makes our pay per click management service such a vital part of our clients success.

Do you provide some form of reporting?

We give you 3 kinds of reporting:

  1. Access to your account manager
  2. Online statistical reporting
  3. Formal end of month traffic reporting in spreadsheet format

What are your pay per click management fees?

£0 – no set up fee
£x – your budget for visitor costs
£25-£50pm management fee
£10% fee on your visitor costs

As there is no set up fee and no obligation to continue for any length of time the only we way profit is if our clients profit! Many of our clients have used our pay per click management every day for years.
