Adwords New Formula For Top Positions 2007/08/11 20:37  
Google has just announced that it is revising the mechanism for achieveing top positions on Adwords. Currently its a forumla based on quality score x cpc which is flawed as your cpc is determined by the bidder below in part. The new system will be based on quality score x Max bid which puts the control back into the advertisers hands and not the competition.

A very good move in our opinion as in some of our clients camapaigns we just could not achieve top position, though not usually a problem, comes into play when clients dont have a capped budget and want as much traffic as is possible. Well done Google!

How is it that people are actually getting position when there are millions of people using the same adwords/keywords?

I don't think so, you are to bid on the keyword you are trying to get. There are thousands of keywords and phrases out there but they have to be bought.
