SEO FAQ
What is SEO?

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a web site by ranking high in the organic search results of a search engine.

Put at its simplest search engines want to display the most relevant search results when someone searches for a keyword. SEO is about ensuring that the search engines recognises your site as the most relevant.

Think of your website as a book Google is trying to understand. We help Google understand what your 'book' is about and make Google recognise that yours is a book others should be reading.

For more detailed info see:

How long does it take to get on 1st page?

Remember there is no guarantee of 1st page position in the organic search results.

HOWEVER we will only undertake SEO work if we believe 1st page for selected keywords is extremely likely.

It is possible to hit 1st page the very next time Google looks at your site especially for very uncompetitive phrases. HOWEVER it is much more likely to take some time to achieve top positions. It also of course depends on how much SEO activity has been undertaken. In 2008 most of the projects we undertook achieved 1st page within 1-3 months.

In almost all cases we have seen almost immediate and significant position increases with an ongoing upwards trend.

Is SEO expensive?

No we don't think so! A good SEO campaign will ensure high volumes of extremely targeted traffic and therefore the resulting enquiries and sales should pay for itself very quickly. Making profit cant be expensive!

Increasingly, whatever your product or service, Google is the biggest 'shop window' out there. More people search for what you are selling there than anywhere else so make sure you fish where the fish are!

We have worked on campaigns for as little as £250. We agree with clients their objectives and suggest a budget based on that - sometimes very little needs doing as the website may already be reasonably well optimised or the site may already have alot of good links, other times alot of both onsite & offsite SEO work may be needed. We offer free no obligation proposals based on your current site so please don't hesitate to get in touch.

How do I know which keywords are best?

In terms of deciding which keywords are the best ones to optimise the site for we research which keywords are 'best' using the following criteria:

- We choose keywords which have good search volume (so you get traffic)

- We choose keywords which are relatively uncompetitive, meaning you are likely to get 1st page position

THEREFORE the best keywords are the ones with good search volumes and low numbers of competing search results. We have specialist resources to identify these keywords in order of preference making the chance of achieving 1st page for the 'best' keywords much easier. We will agree these keywords with you.

You SEO types dont get a good press - how can you reassure me?

You are right we don't! Our industry isn't heavily regulated and there are alot of cowboys out there willing to take your money and do nothing but blind you with jargon. We arent like that - promise!

We don't do or charge for any work until the client fully understands what we are proposing, what that involves and what results they can expect. One of the reasons people often say they chose us to SEO their site is because we were able to explain to them in English what we were going to do and why it will work. Call us - you will find we talk sense not jargon!

Is Website Optimisation the same as SE0?

Website Optimisation, as we define it, is part of the SEO process concerned with the website itself i.e. not link building or offsite SEO. Website optimisation or onsite SEO is concerned largely with ensuring the right content is in the right places on the site so that the search engines can understand what the site is about. See this page for further details on website optimisation.

How do I know if SEO has worked?

Our clients have access to detailed keyword positioning and traffic reports so they can quantify position and traffic increases.
